What Sets Us Apart

  • 3D printing or additive manufacturing is still in its infancy. Plastic scribbler makes it easy for you to experiment with your new printer. Out-of-the box printing will be excellent, but for advanced features such as printing parts for press-fit applications or thin walled parts, settings might need to be tweaked to achieve world class results. We offer every customer completely free access to our internet trouble shooting system and we also offer many online tutorials that will help you with advanced 3D printing tasks. In addition, if you don't find your answer using these methods, we have a great 3D printing forum which you can use to ask the "3D printer community" for the answer fast!

We also support all the latest open source software. We'll have many tutorials online that will get you started right away using your favorite slicer and solid modeler. The software associated with 3D printing consists of two parts. The first part is your 3D printer frontend. Popular open source 3D printer front ends are Printrun/Pronterface, RepRap Host software, RepSnapper, Cura and ReplicatorG. The second component used by all 3D printer enthusiasts is a good slicer. A slicer is a piece of software that takes a 3D model and "slices" the part into layers. Each corresponding layer is than converted into g-code which is then interpreted by your Plastic Scribbler 3D printer into motion and plastic extrusion. We cover all the best open source slicers including, Skeinforge, Slic3r, Cura and Kisslicer.

Plus, if you're new to 3D printing it might be confusing to you on how to create or design 3D objects. We also have numerous tutorials on getting started in 3D modeling. We'll cover all the best open source 3D modeling software packages available. We have tutorials on Google Sketchup, Art of Illusion, Blender and K-3D. All these software packages are free to use and we'll make it easy for you to start designing your next 3D print!

If designing your own 3D models sounds a little to much for you, there are alternatives. Unfortunately, most commercial 3D scanners are way too expensive for the causal user, with pricing starting around $2400 dollars. However, there are many alternatives in the works such as the up and coming Canadian 3D scanner from Matterform. Once availabe, the Matterform 3D scanner is priced great at under $600 dollars. We missed the initial crowd funding to get in the first round, but we'll order the Matterform as soon is one is available. Even at under $600 dollars, the Matterform 3D scanner might not be for you, but don't worry there another option too. Let other talented people do the work for you! There are many very talented makers out there using 3D modeling software or have access to 3D printers and luckily for us they share their work. You can also check out thingiverse, TurboSquid, 3dcadbrowser.com and Trimble 3D Warehouse. All these websites offer numerous 3D models that free to download and starting printing!

If you are a really advanced 3D printer user, we'll also cover changing your firmware from Marlin to Sprinter or updating your firmware and cover all the settings you'll need to change in order to get the most out of your Plastic Scribbler 3D printer. Many people have their favorite firmware and we don't want you to feel that while you haven't spent a fortune on your new 3D printer that its not a real RepRap. We offer everything you need to get the most out of your 3D printer and we do it all starting at $499 dollars!
